Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council - Our Extended Family

Our troop could not be here without the hard work and dedication of all our adult volunteers! However we are not alone and have an incredible support team. Our troop is part of a Girl Scout family that extends from our neighborhood to Southwest Houston to Southeast Texas and on to our country and the world.

Our Community - Willow Rock

Girl Scout Troop 147050 is within the Willow Rock Community, which includes the zipcode 77025 and neighborhoods to the southwest. Our community will have events and support for our troop all year long.

Our Council - Girl Scouts of San Jacinto

Our troop is part of Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council. The US is divided into councils and ours is the second largest in the country with a membership of 39,000 girls and 18,000 adults across 26 counties.

“Behind every Girl Scout and volunteer is a team of local staff ready to help them earn that next badge, embark on a camping adventure, or organize an impactful service project. That’s what a Girl Scout council is. We are here to maintain camp properties, provide local Girl Scouts skill-building workshops and resources to achieve whatever they can dream up.”

“In 1922, a decade after Juliette Gordon Low initiated the Girl Scout movement in Savannah, Georgia, a troop was established in Houston, Texas. Presently, the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council (GSSJC) is guided by a chief executive officer, board of directors, dedicated staff, and numerous volunteers spanning across 26 counties. “ GSSJC Council Leadership . 2025 Annual Meeting Slides

Girl Scouts of the USA

Our council and over 100 others make up the full family of the USA. The GSUSA actively supports our council.

“The beginning of Girl Scouting in this country is unique in that it started as a national organization and then, a few years later, chartered Girl Scout councils. This relationship creates an interdependence between Girl Scout councils and the national organization (Girl Scouts of the USA or GSUSA). Collectively, the national organization, Girl Scout councils, and the National Council are responsible for sustaining the existence of Girl Scouting in the USA. In addition, GSUSA maintains a global relationship as a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (commonly referred to as “WAGGGS”). This briefing paper describes the leadership responsibilities and accountabilities of the national organization and Girl Scout councils.”
